Sarah and Joe – A goth wedding in Whitby

Joe and Sarah kicked off April Goth weekend here in Whitby when they had their goth wedding at The Met. Like many they had to postpone their plans because of covid, but finally their wedding day arrived, and I had the honour of being their photographer. The room was dressed in black with purple tones with candle lanterns.

Joe and his Groomsmen arrived by hearse, (after a stop off at my local The Little Angel) wearing kilts and following their enthusiastic flower dude down the aisle to Alien Sex Fiends version of ‘I Walk the Line’ played by their DJ Alex from Corrosion.

Sarah also arrived by hearse, and she looked stunning in a full length black veil, corset, bridal skirt and moon and crystal tiara. Sarah walked down the aisle with her dad to ‘Bring Me Back to Life’ hauntingly sang a capella by Lucy from Westenra.

Their ceremony was very personal and unique, making their guests feel involved with many funny moments. Created by Ellie from Alternative Ceremonies UK (who also happens to be my wife), there was also a handfasting ceremony, binding them together as husband and wife.

The rings were delivered by their Best Man in a coffin ring box which Sarah had customised, and finally, they were husband and wife. A quick chance for some photos outside and a guest had a drone, so a group aerial shot was organised.

The cake had a personalised bride and groom, made by their friend, with a Whitby Abbey topper too. Vegan cupcakes for their friends from K D Cakes, as Sarah and Joe made sure all were catered for. In thanks to their guests, candle and skull gifts were on the tables for them to take home.

After the cutting and eating of the cake it was on to the bands as Souls of Misfortune and The Spouky Kids played a great set.

Joe and Sarah, thank you for asking me to be your photographer. You are ‘Simply Meant to Be’
